2024
_png%20cut%20out.png)
It's 30 years since The Quangle Wangle Choir was born as part of the celebrations when the Tall Ships race set off from Weymouth in 1994.
It's also the 200th anniversary of the founding of the RNLI this year. Time to sing some sea songs to celebrate both institutions!

March 16th. Radio Solent

An unusual request from Radio Solent: would we like to announce the Workplace Track of the Week? Well yes - but obviously we did so with a newly composed jingle. The start of something new for us?!

April 20th Castle Cove
_png%20cut%20out.png)

We kicked off the season by helping the folks at Castle Cove beach celebrate 5 years since they got the beach open again. We sang at Sandsfoot Castle Gardens at 2pm on April 20th, and 3pm on the beach, with our friends in Wacapella and The Live Wire Choir

May 19th. Poole
_png%20cut%20out.png)
On May 19th we were part of the RNLI celebrations at Poole, with Wacapella and The Live Wire Choir.
11.45 - 12.30 on the Quay and
1.30 - 2.15 at the RNLI College

Getting there by train added to the fun for some of us.

Squashing into a large biscuit tin to sing on the Quay was a bit of a challenge, but we had an excellent sound man who made it all work.
Singing in the sun outside the very impressive RNLI College.
A well-earned ice cream - with an old soldier.

May 31st Nothe Fort
_png%20cut%20out.png)
Did you hear us on Radio Solent Dorset, late on the afternoon of Friday 31st May?! Pretty difficult to sing against a strong wind, huddled around a single microphone in the Nothe Fort, but fun nonetheless.

June 15th Radipole Gardens
_png%20cut%20out.png)
In the end the June 15th event at Radipole Gardens was postponed until August, so we were unable to take part. Shame!

June 30th Poundbury

The Age UK event on Poundbury Great Field on June 30th included us singing at 2pm by the café.

July 4th Portland Port
_png%20cut%20out.png)
What a joy it is to sing to a Cruise ship when there's a good audience! Hundreds of appreciative listeners lined the balconies and top deck all down the ship, when we sang on the quayside on Thursday 4th July.

July 6th Weybay Church
_png%20cut%20out.png)
Concert at Weymouth Bay Methodist Church, Weymouth, July 6th.
7.30 - 9.30ish.
£10 on the door, accompanied children free.
A raffle raised £40 for the RNLI.
Concert celebrating 30 glorious and fun-filled years since the founding of the choir in the summer of 1994. Songs of the sea were much in evidence, reflecting the beginnings of the choir, as well as the 200th birthday of the RNLI.

We found out what happened to the Owl and the Pussy Cat once their pea-green boat had rotted. We shivered our timbers to a rousing sea shanty and were moved, perhaps comforted, by a new setting of Tennyson's poem Crossing the Bar. And much more besides.
A display of photos and banners from the past 30 years of the choir's history sparked many happy memories

Important to have a birthday cake too! Thanks Jane!

December 21st Broadwey
_png%20cut%20out.png)
On the shortest day of the year we celebrated Christmas and the turning of the year with a joyful mix of carols and poetry, from time-honoured favourites to little-known gems.
The team at St Nicholas' Church gave us a great welcome. It was a pleasure to breeze in and give a concert, knowing that all arrangements, refreshments etc. would already be in place.
